2027 General Operations
A Baltimore food storage and distribution hub: receive larger donations, protect perishable food, and prepare deliveries beyond our initial church-based location.
The Capacity Behind Community Food Access
Our initial food distribution model is rooted in the church community at 4005 Old York Road. A dedicated warehouse would add the space and delivery access needed to receive truckloads and pallet donations, sort food, and prepare distributions for additional community locations.
Operating support pays for the practical work between a donor’s offer and a family’s groceries: receiving appointments, reliable cold storage, inventory rotation, packing, volunteer coordination and transport.
What The Space Would Look Like
We will look for approximately 500–1,000 square feet of private warehouse space in Baltimore, with a rent planning range of $1,000–$1,500 per month. The layout would include dock access for deliveries, shelving for dry goods, commercial refrigerators and freezers, and a clear sorting and packing area.
The hub would support scheduled receiving and outbound community distributions. Refrigerated deliveries must be unpacked into equipment with sufficient available capacity; the initial budget covers reach-in appliances, rather than a walk-in room for intact refrigerated pallets.
Before leasing, we will confirm food-storage permission, loading access, electrical capacity, sanitation, insurance, applicable approvals and a response plan for power outages. Final equipment and facility costs will be supported by quotes.
2027 General Operating Support
Our $75,000 fundraising goal will help establish and operate a Baltimore food storage and distribution hub. Support will provide warehouse space, commercial refrigeration and freezer capacity, safe storage and packing areas, and the coordination and transportation needed to move food into multiple communities.
Funding will also help cover insurance, equipment upkeep, food-safety supplies and the working capital needed for reliable operations. The full planning budget and cost assumptions are available below for grantmakers and prospective partners.
A Phased 2027 Plan
First quarter: secure funding, compare spaces, confirm approvals and install equipment. Second quarter: test receiving and cold-storage procedures, then begin additional community distributions. Third and fourth quarters: expand where food supply, transport, volunteer capacity and funding support reliable service.
Proposed first-year targets are 18 distribution cycles from April through December across at least three community locations, with an initial receiving capacity target of two appointments per month after opening. These targets depend on launch readiness and are not claims of past results.
We will track food received and distributed, households reached, communities served, temperature checks, food loss, volunteer hours and costs. Household and food-volume targets will follow confirmed supply and baseline data.
Recurring donations, foundation grants and corporate sponsorships will support continuation. We will review cash coverage monthly and phase expansion to available resources.
Invest In Reliable Food Access
A $15,000 gift covers a full year of base rent. A $25,000 operating grant could cover rent, insurance, incremental occupancy costs and most planned transport. A $75,000 commitment would meet our fundraising goal and support the hub’s first year.
Support can include general operating grants, space sponsorships, commercial cold-storage equipment or transportation services. Restricted gifts will be applied to agreed eligible costs; funding will not be counted twice.
